1 dead, 2 in critical condition in Orem after alleged drug-related shooting

The shooting happened around 7 p.m. near the Murdock Canal Trail. Officers haven’t arrested a suspect.

Orem police are investigating after one person was killed and two others were critically injured in a shooting on Wednesday.

Sgt. Brian Luangsawasdi described the shooting as a “drug deal gone bad,” according to a news conference broadcast live by FOX13. Luangsawasdi declined to release the three victims’ names because of the active investigation.

The shooting happened around 7 p.m. near the Murdock Canal Trail, around 165 East 1700 North. The shooter fired on the three victims in a car, who drove from there to an apartment complex at 1274 N. State St., Luangsawasdi said.

Officers found the victims in the car at the apartments. Medics declared a passenger dead and two others were taken to the hospital.

Luangsawasdi said police have identified a shooting suspect but have not taken that person into custody.
