Nearly 46% of eligible Utahns have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19

The state health department reports 309 new cases Thursday and two more deaths.

More than 56% of the Utahns eligible to be vaccinated against COVID-19 have gotten at least one dose, and nearly 46% of those eligible are fully vaccinated, the Utah Department of Health reported Thursday.

Of the entire population — including children under 12, who are not yet eligible to get the vaccine — 45.7% of all Utahns have received at least one dose, and 37% are fully vaccinated.

UDOH also reported 309 new cases of COVID-19 in Utah on Thursday, and two more deaths.

Vaccine doses administered in past day/total doses administered • 13,508 / 2,555,978.

Utahns fully vaccinated • 2,542,470.

Cases reported in past day • 309.

Deaths reported in past day • Two: a Salt Lake County man, between age 65 and 84; and a Grand County man, older than 85.

Tests reported in past day • 4,513 people were tested for the first time. A total of 9,073 people were tested.

Hospitalizations reported in past day • 147. That’s two more than on Wednesday. Of those currently hospitalized, 53 are in intensive care, four fewer than on Wednesday.

Percentage of positive tests • Under the state’s original method, the rate is 6.8%. That’s a shade higher than the seven-day average of 6.7%.

The state’s new method counts all test results, including repeated tests of the same individual. Thursday’s rate was 3.4%, lower than the seven-day average of 3.9%.
