Police shoot alleged burglar in West Valley City

The suspect, who was wielding crowbar, is expected to survive.

The Salt Lake Tribune

An alleged burglar who was armed with a crowbar is expected to recover after he was shot by West Valley City police early Monday morning.

According to police, they received a report at about 1:30 a.m. of a man smashing windows and trying to break into homes near 4800 South and Huntington Street (3855 South). Officers confronted the 25-year-old man, who refused to drop the crowbar and surrender.

Attempts to use a Taser on him were unsuccessful, police said, and at least one officer shot the suspect. The man, whose name has not been released, was hit at least once and taken to a hospital to be treated. His wound was not believed to be life-threatening.

Unified Police is investigating the shooting.
