Utah nurse who received double lung transplant is home

Jill Holker spent two months on life support after contracting COVID-19.

Jill Holker, a mother of three and ICU nurse at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, spent much of 2020 caring for COVID patients until she was infected. Now she is home after receiving a double lung transplant.

An ICU nurse who received a double lung transplant this winter is finally home, FOX 13 reports.

Jill Holker was a healthy mother of three at the start of the pandemic. She contracted COVID in the fall and had to be placed on a machine in order to breathe after her lungs deteriorated.

Holker was flown to Gainesville, Fla., in December to await a donor for her lung transplant because the University of Florida is one of the only places that performs lung transplants on COVID patients. She had her surgery on Jan. 20 and has been recovering since.

On Friday, she arrived safely back in Utah where she was welcomed by family and friends, according to FOX 13.

She wants to return to working as a nurse, but the timeline of her recovery isn’t clear, according to FOX 13.
