Deseret News names Robin Ritch as new publisher

Ritch is currently the senior vice president of operations at the Deseret News.

The Deseret News newspaper in Salt Lake City has chosen Robin Ritch as its new president and publisher.

Ritch moves into the role from her current position as senior vice president of operations, the newspaper said in a news release Wednesday.

She replaces Jeff Simpson, who is leaving to take a three-year assignment for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The church owns the Deseret News.

Deseret Management Corporation CEO Keith McMullin called Ritch a “transformational leader” who thinks strategically. Ritch previously worked in leadership positions at Cisco, Intel and Microsoft.

The newspaper stopped printing daily newspapers at the end of 2020 and now prints one newspaper every weekend along with a monthly magazine. The newspaper posts stories daily on its website.

The company also announced Wednesday that Deseret News Editor Doug Wilks has been promoted to executive editor.
