Technical issues have caused emission testing for vehicles in Salt Lake and Weber counties to be temporarily halted, according to a news release from the Utah State Tax Commission.
A software program that provides emission testing in those counties had a data problem on Wednesday that forced testing to be shut down. All application interfaces using the program, including the Department of Motor Vehicles, were turned off as a precaution. The program vendor is investigating the outage.
If your vehicle needs an emission test for registration or registration renewal, you can get a temporary permit at a DMV office or online at https://secure.utah.gov/rex/index.html.
