(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune file photo) Sun pokes in and out of the clouds while patches of rain bring moisture to the Salt Lake Valley during a 2019 storm. The National Weather Service said Friday, March 12, 2021, that wind advisories are in place in northern parts of the state including Tooele, Salt Lake City and Ogden.

Storms are expected this weekend, and the National Weather Service has issued storm warnings in western Uintah County and parts of southwest Utah including Milford — where a foot of snow was reported Friday — and Cedar City.

Wind advisories are in place in northern parts of the state including Tooele, Salt Lake City and Ogden. A winter weather advisory is in place in central Utah. The NWS said on Twitter that snow could create difficult travel in the mountains of central Utah through Sunday morning.

UDOT Traffic is warning of road snow in eastern Utah from Friday night until Sunday. Snow is most likely to impact roads in the mountains and in higher valleys. Numerous roads are expected to see weather-related traffic concerns, including I-80 over Parley’s Summit to Wyoming and all of I-70, SR-12, SR-20, SR-153, SR-143 and SR-14. Drivers should use caution and be prepared for chain restrictions on canyon and mountain routes.

Bad road conditions caused trouble for drivers on Friday afternoon and evening.

There were several crashes on I-15 that caused parts of the road to be closed during the afternoon. Traffic was reopened in both directions by evening but was still slow, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The NWS reported strong wind and snow on Friday throughout Utah. There were 50 mph gusts of wind on US-89 Park Lane in Farmington and 46 mph gusts reported in Centerville. A foot of snow fell in Milford while six inches fell in Beaver and eight inches fell in Fremont Junction.
