Price police issued an Amber Alert on Thursday afternoon for an infant girl — who was found safe later that evening — and her mother, who was accused of driving off with her.
The woman was identified as 38-year-old Jaqueline Gardner, who police say took her 5-week-old daughter, Vallye Lorane Turner.
According to a Facebook post from Price police, Gardner (who is identified by the name Jaqueline Turner in the post) took the baby after a court hearing Wednesday where she had been ordered to “turn her children over to law enforcement.” The court order said, “There is an imminent danger to the physical health or safety of the children,” according to the post.
The Amber Alert was issued at 2:44 p.m. and was sent to social media and to most people’s smartphones. The alert was later modified to reflect that the woman and vehicle had been found, then it was canceled at 7:55 p.m., even though the baby was still missing at that time, according to the Utah Department of Public Safety. But the infant was found safe and “appears to be healthy,” Price police said in a Facebook post around 8:30 p.m.
Police say the woman is in custody.
