Pilot killed in gyrocopter crash near Heber Valley Airport

A man was killed Wednesday night when the gyrocopter he was flying crashed shortly after taking off from the Heber Valley Airport, authorities said.

Lt. Nick Street of the Utah Highway Patrol said no one else was injured in the crash. He said the cause of the crash is still under investigation. The name of the pilot hasn’t been released yet.

The plane took off from a runway by U.S. Highway 189, according to Street. It went down and hit dirt off of the highway before rolling into a fence.

Street said gyrocopters are categorized as experimental aircrafts and are not used for commercial purposes.
