Herriman police shoot and kill man during confrontation

One man is dead after he “presented a threat” and was shot by Herriman police officers on Tuesday night.

The dead man’s name has not yet been released.

According to a statement from Herriman police, officers were called to a home near 5300 W. Solafax Lane (approximately 13300 South) at about 10 p.m., where a man was reportedly violating a protective order. When they arrived, officers heard “several” gunshots.

The officers located the man and “challenged” him, according to police. “At some point, he presented a threat and was engaged by two officers,” who shot and killed the man.

The officers, who have been placed on paid administrative leave, were not injured. They were wearing body cameras, according to Herriman police.

The shooting is under investigation by a multi-jurisdictional team of investigators from police departments other than Herriman’s.
