Man shot to death in Salt Lake City alley

A man was shot and killed Wednesday evening in a downtown Salt Lake City alley.

Police responded to a call of gunfire about 5:30 p.m. on Harrison Avenue near Major Street. There, officers found a man lying in the small roadway, said Salt Lake City police Detective Greg Wilking. The man died at the scene.

Wilking said it isn’t clear yet what prompted the shooting. And police have not identified the man, who is only being described as middle-aged.

Officers are investigating the shooting as a homicide.
