Utah man dies in a boating accident at Lake Powell

A 46-year-old man died Tuesday in a boating accident on Lake Powell. The victim has been identified as Ryan Hall from Saratoga Springs.

Hall was reportedly part of a group camping overnight in a houseboat on the shoreline of Lake Powell in the Warm Creek area, in Kane County. Hall took a wave boat out at night and hit a rock, causing the boat to flip.

The Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Dispatch Center received a report of the accident and a missing person on Lake Powell at approximately 1:20 a.m. and made a quick but unsuccessful search for Hall. The search continued after daybreak, and the dive team recovered the victim later Tuesday in 12 feet of water.

The accident is under investigation by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, Utah State Parks, the National Park Service and the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office.
