The state liquor and wine store in Pleasant Grove will reopen Friday at 11 a.m. after a one-day shutdown.

The store, at 671 S. Pleasant Grove Blvd., was temporarily shuttered Thursday after an employee tested positive for COVID-19, officials with the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control said.

The store has been sanitized and disinfected said DABC spokesman Terry Wood. “All employees of the store have been given a clean bill of health by the Utah County Health Department and will be able to return to work.”

This marked the fifth time that the liquor agency had to close a store because an employee became infected with the coronavirus. Two Salt Lake City stores were forced to closed temporarily earlier this month. And, in April, stores in Murray and Moab were shuttered.

Usually, it takes about a week for stores to reopen and for the DABC to fill positions, often by transferring employees from other outlets to fill in the gaps.

The agency “cannot force employees to be tested, that is up to each individual,” Wood said. However, in those previously affected stores, employees have volunteered to be tested.

The DABC is still limiting the number of customers who can be in stores at any one time, which can result in lines outside. Patrons are asked to stand 6 feet apart while waiting to enter. Customers also are encouraged to wear masks inside the store for the protection of employees and other patrons.
