Police: 3 teens injured in crash at Bonneville Salt Flats

Three teenage boys were severely injured in a vehicle crash at the Bonneville Salt Flats in northwestern Utah, authorities said.

The Wendover Police Department said a car was traveling about 100 mph on the flats Tuesday around 10 p.m. when it collided with a raised barrier about 10 miles from Wendover, KUTV-TV reported.

There was little to no effort to stop the vehicle, police said.

The 18-year-old driver was severely injured along with two passengers, age 17 and 18, authorities said.

Police had to extricate the trapped driver from the vehicle following the crash, authorities said. All three teens were transported to the University of Utah hospital by helicopter.

According to a Facebook post, a witness to the crash was told by police that he was lucky to be in the area because the teens might not have been found until the next day.
