Sandy teenager shot and killed, and police are searching for a suspect

A teenager was shot and killed in Sandy on Friday morning, and police are looking for a suspect.

According to the Sandy Police Department, a 17-year-old boy was shot shortly after 11:30 a.m. on Saphire Drive near 1100 East. The teenager was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, and died there.

The name of the victim has not been released.

Police are looking for a green, older model Ford Explorer. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous, and anyone who sees the Explorer is asked to call police at 801-799-3000.

Sandy police also tweeted that a suspect “fled the area and there is no immediate concern for residents in the area.” Saphire Drive will, however, remain closed for “several hours” while the investigation continues.
