Saddle Fire near Midway is 70% contained, evacuation order is lifted

Firefighters are making progress against the Saddle Fire near Midway, and nearby residents have been allowed to return to their homes.

The fire was estimated at 683 acres Thursday evening, with 70% containment. The suspected arson fire was first reported at 5-10 acres on Tuesday afternoon, but high winds drove it to hundreds of acres, and nine houses near the blaze were evacuated. The mandatory evacuation order was lifted at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and residents were allowed to return to their homes.

Firefighters expect to be able to dial back resources being used to fight the blaze by Friday morning.

A juvenile suspected of starting the Saddle Fire was arrested on Tuesday, according to the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office. The juvenile is also suspected of starting three other recent fires near the Interlaken and Pine Canyon neighborhoods north of the Provo River.
