Cedar City police are investigating after one man was shot to death and another man reportedly shot and wounded himself Sunday night.
According to a news release, officers responding to a report of gunshots near 100 W. Sunset Drive about 10:38 p.m. found the body of Jeremy Hunter, 47, who had been shot “multiple” times. Witnesses reported that a 26-year-old man shot Hunter and fled.
The suspect — who was carrying two rifles — was located several blocks away, according to police. When officers ordered him to drop the weapons, he “fled on foot for a short distance before he shot himself.”
Investigators discovered several bullets had exited the home where the shooting occurred and struck two other homes. No additional injuries were reported.
The suspect was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and then flown by helicopter to another hospital with life-threatening injuries. He remained on life support as of Monday evening, according to an updated press release.
According to Cedar City police, the motive for the shooting is also unknown.
