Woman, child hit by FrontRunner train in Provo

A FrontRunner train struck a woman and child Saturday in Provo.

The woman, who is 21, was carrying the 3 year-old across a railroad crossing at 500 S. 900 West when they were hit.

Utah Transit Authority spokesman Carl Arky said the woman was apparently trying to get across before the train got there, “and she didn’t make it.”

Video footage shows that the crossing arm was down and warning lights and bells were on when she crossed around 3 p.m.

Both were taken to the hospital. Arky said they are in at least serious, but potentially critical, condition.
