3-year-old killed in Utah rollover crash. The child wasn’t in a car seat.

A 3-year-old was killed Sunday afternoon in a single-car accident about 15 miles north of Cedar City, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The child was not restrained in a child car seat.

At about 3 p.m., a southbound SUV rolled near milepost 62. The 3-year-old, who was in the back seat restrained by a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

According to UHP, the driver of the SUV reached into the back seat to give the crying child a bottle, and the vehicle drifted to the right. The driver over-corrected, veered to the left and hit a guardrail, causing the SUV to roll.

A front-seat passenger, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, according to UHP. The driver, who was also wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries.
