Woman fatally shot in Millcreek after visiting friends’ home for dinner

Police are trying to locate the person who fatally shot a woman in Millcreek late Wednesday after she had visited a friend’s home for dinner.

At about 10 p.m., officers found a 57-year-old woman sitting in a car near 4500 S. 800 East with a gunshot wound to her leg, FOX 13 reported. She was later identified as Linda Nemelka, of Murray.

Medics applied a tourniquet and took her to a hospital, but she later died, Unified Police said.

Witnesses saw a dark-colored SUV leaving the scene, police said.

"It's very odd, given the circumstances that this isn't her home," said UPD Sgt. Melody Gray, noting there was "always the potential that it's random."

“At this point, it’s really hard to tell if someone was here, maybe looking for someone else,” Gray said. “We just don’t have any idea at this point.”

Anyone with information about the shooting can call UPD at 801-743-7000.
