Two arrested in fatal West Valley City stabbing

A man who gave two acquaintances a ride died early Wednesday after he was allegedly stabbed “repeatedly” by the men, according to West Valley City Police

The victim — identified by police as Troy Carter, 27 — was taken to a hospital, where he died at about 1:30 a.m. According to a probable cause statement, Carter gave the two suspects a ride and got into an argument with them. Carter pulled over near 3500 West 4000 South and told the two men to get out of the car. A fight broke out, Carter was “knocked to the ground” and the suspects “began stabbing him repeatedly with a large knife.”

The investigation led to a house in Kearns, where officers found two men they believe to be involved in the stabbing, as well as other evidence, police wrote. The two men — who had gone to a hospital to be treated for injuries they suffered during the fight — were arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County jail for investigation of murder. They are being held without bail.

The Salt Lake Tribune generally does not name people who have been accused of crimes but have not yet been charged.
