Utah man jailed after posting threats to kill polygamists and police

A Cedar City man has been charged after he reportedly posted threats online to kill polygamists and police officers — before police killed him.

The 44-year-old suspect was charged in 5th District Court with making terroristic threats, a second-degree felony.

According to Cedar City Police, they received an anonymous tip Wednesday about Facebook posts by the suspect. The man wrote that “he wanted to shoot and kill polygamists at Lin’s Grocery store, shoot the first responding officers, then commit suicide by back-up officers.”

The Lin’s Fresh Market at 150 N. Main Street in Cedar City closed early on Wednesday because of the threats; there were no incidents at the store.

The suspect was detained on Thursday and booked into Iron County jail, where he is being held without bail.
