Eleven veterans were honored Monday during the 22nd annual Veterans Day Commemoration at the University of Utah. The event included a bagpipe procession, awards ceremony and speeches by Sen. Mitt Romney and Army Reserve Brig. Gen. Doug Cherry. After the awards ceremony, a cannon was fired outside the student union.
Those honored served in wars generations apart. In one touching moment, veterans Leland Hortman and Earl Jacklin, who fought in World War II, shook hands with Glenn Johnson, a young man who served tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.
