Utah man who left his nursing home in a Lyft has been found

Police in Spanish Fork canceled a Silver Alert for a 73-year-old man who used the ride-hailing service Lyft to leave his nursing home on Sunday night.

The man was found Monday morning, police said. The man had left a nursing home near 100 East and Center St. at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the statewide missing person alert system. He later called the nursing facility to tell staff that he had checked into a hotel and did not want to live at the care center anymore, said Spanish Fork Police Lt. Brandon Anderson.

It’s not clear how the alert was issued, Anderson said, since Spanish Fork police did not seek a Silver Alert, the notification system for senior Utahns who disappear, Anderson said.

The Tribune will report further details as they become available.
