Bull elk shot and ‘left to waste’ near Utah highway

(Photo courtesy of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources) Utah authorities are looking for the person who illegally shot and killed an elk.

Investigators are trying to learn who shot a bull elk near Escalante, where it was “left to waste,” Utah wildlife officials said.

The elk was killed between Oct. 19 and 22 about 9 miles west of Escalante on State Road 12, state wildlife officials wrote in a news statement.

The poacher “most likely shot the animal from the highway and then made a U-turn to leave the area,” state wildlife officials wrote.

There were no active bull elk hunts when the poaching occurred, state wildlife officials wrote.

Anyone with information may call the state’s poaching tipline at 800-662-3337.
