Surprise! It won’t rain on LDS General Conference

Chris Detrick | Tribune file photo) The forecast for LDS conference weekend calls for clear and cool weather on Saturday and Sunday.

It’s General Conference weekend in Salt Lake City, which — according to local myth — just about guarantees rain, right?

Not this year. Well, not on Saturday or Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints headed to the Conference Center for weekend sessions won’t need raincoats, unless they’re out and about on Friday afternoon, when there’s a 40 percent chance of rain. But the NWS forecast calls for it to be clear and sunny both Saturday and Sunday.

Conference-goers will, however, want to think about wearing jackets or sweaters. Saturday’s forecast high temperature will be near 55, with 7-9 mph winds; on Sunday, it’s expected to be near 61.

And it's going to be freezing once the sun goes down. Friday's overnight low is 25; Saturday's is 27; and Sunday's is 30.

There’s no rain in the forecast through the upcoming work week, which will see daytime highs in 60s and overnight lows in the 30s.
