16-year-old found dead in northern Utah park was brought there after death

Police have concluded that a 16-year-old whose body was found Thursday morning in a Box Elder County park was brought to the locale sometime after his death.

The Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office said it considers Marcus Elkins’ death suspicious because his body was moved, according to a news release. The department added his body showed no external signs of trauma.

Elkins was last seen about 10 p.m. Wednesday near Bill Flack Park, 2450 N. 4050 West, in Corinne. Someone found the body just before 8 a.m. Thursday in the park.

The sheriff’s office said they’ve identified “persons of interest" who may either have “first-hand knowledge to aid the investigation” or “may be involved” in the boy’s death. All those people are under 18, according to the release.

Chief Deputy Dale F. Ward said deputies plan to serve search warrants on those individual’s homes and cars.

The state medical examiner will determine Elkins’ cause of death.
