Three people suffered injuries Thursday when lightning struck near the Utah Territorial Statehouse in Fillmore.

Devan Chavez, a spokesman for Utah State Parks, said ambulances took all three victims to Fillmore Community Hospital. One person was treated for minor injuries and released; a father and his minor daughter were more seriously injured.

According to a Facebook post by the Millard County Sheriff’s Office, lightning struck shortly before 8 p.m. and “CPR was quickly rendered to the father, who regained a pulse but required artificial respiration during transport to the hospital. The daughter regained a disoriented consciousness and was also transported by a second ambulance.”

In an update later Friday, the sheriff’s office said the girl suffered a damaged eardrum and first-degree burns. The father had regained consciousness while he and his daughter were flown to a Salt Lake area hospital. Their conditions have not been released.

FOX 13 reported that Scott Robison, 45, and his daughter Chloe, of Taylorsville, were struck by lightning while playing “pioneer games” near a tree at the park. They were attending the Building Zion Youth Conference.

There was no damage to the Statehouse, Chavez said.

The Territorial Statehouse is a relic from Utah’s pioneer days when the capitol was briefly located in Fillmore. The state still operates the Statehouse as a park and museum.

The National Weather Service had predicted Fillmore would receive rain and a thunderstorm Thursday night.
