Authorities recover body of North Salt Lake man who drowned in East Canyon Reservoir

The body of a man who drowned while swimming in the East Canyon Reservoir on Sunday has been recovered.

Search crews located Shervin Rayeneh, 25, at about 10:08 p.m. on Sunday, according to a spokesman for the Utah State Parks.

The North Salt Lake man and his family had rented a pontoon boat on Sunday afternoon, and he and two family members jumped in the water to swim.

“Shortly after entering the water, Rayeneh began to struggle and turned to return to the boat when he went under the water and did not surface,” said Lt. Eric Stucki with Utah State Parks and Recreation. Rayenah was not wearing a life jacket.

Stucki said the cold water was a likely factor in the drowning.
