A West Haven man was shot several times by Weber County sheriff’s officers who were responding to a report of domestic violence/shots fired on Sunday night.
According to a department spokesman, Roy police responded to a reported domestic dispute between a man and woman at a home near 4300 South and 4300 West in West Haven about 11:45 p.m. on Sunday. By the time officers arrived, the man — identified as Justin Jessop, 37 — had walked away from the home.
Sheriff’s officers found him near 4500 West and 4000 South shortly thereafter, and, according to a news release, when they got out of the car to speak to Jessop, he allegedly pointed a handgun at them. “Shots were fired” by police, said Weber County sheriff’s Lt. Matt Jensen, and Jessop was struck “several times.”
The officers were equipped with body cameras.
Jessop was taken to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery and is in critical condition, according to police.
The two officers have been placed on paid administrative leave while the Weber County District Attorney’s Office investigates.
