Man severely burned in propane tank explosion in Tooele home

A propane tank explosion left a man with severe burns to his upper body Thursday in Tooele, FOX 13 reported.

Firefighters found the man lying in the grass outside of a home near 1000 West and 880 South, shortly after an explosion was reported there, officials with the Tooele City Fire Department said.

The explosion had blown off the garage door, depositing large pieces of it onto the sidewalk in front of the home, firefighters said.

The man had suffered second- and third-degree burns and was taken to a hospital, firefighters told FOX 13. There was little fire damage inside the garage, firefighters said.

“Without question, whenever we have an explosion like this in the middle of a residential area, we would classify that as peculiar at the very least and it does take some time to determine what the actual cause is in an event like this,” Tooele Fire Capt. Bucky Whitehouse told FOX 13.
