May Day is synonymous with blooming flowers and warm — but not hot — weather. The Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo are almost here to help us transition into summer festival season.
But people in the Salt Lake Valley awoke Wednesday to temperatures in the 30s and a thin layer of snow and ice — weather more reminiscent of the Midwest than the West.
Flowers were still blooming, if you could see them through the light fog.
The good news is that the cold and snow are exiting the state. The National Weather Service expects improved conditions Thursday and Friday, with temperatures on the rebound — 63 degrees on Thursday, up to 67 on Friday.
St. George also will see improving conditions in the wake of early week storms. Temperatures are supposed to reach the high 70s by the end of the week.
