13-year-old Iowa boy who died while rock climbing at Snow Canyon State Park is identified

A 13-year-old boy from Iowa died Sunday when he fell while rock climbing in Snow Canyon State Park in southern Utah.

Elijah Baldwin of Farragut, Iowa, died between 4:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. when he fell while climbing alone in the Pioneer Names area of the park. No one witnessed his fall.

“Elijah was free climbing at the time of the incident and it is believed he fell from between 75 and 100 feet,” said Eugene Swalberg, a spokesman for Utah State Parks.

According to Swalberg, Baldwin was using no equipment, not even ropes.

Snow Canyon State Park is about 10 miles northwest of St. George.
