NBCUniversal buys four more Telemundo TV station licenses in Utah

(Courtesy Telemundo) NBCUniversal now owns five Utah television stations, which will be operated by its Telemundo Station Group.

NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations has completed its purchase of several Telemundo-affiliated stations in Utah, and will begin operating all of them itself.

NBCUniversal announced in December that it had reached an agreement to buy full-power station KTMW-Channel 20 in Salt Lake City and three low-power station licenses — KULX-CD in Ogden, K17II-LD in Logan and KULU-LD in Park City — from Serestar Communications. The $21 million deal includes three low-power station licenses in Sacramento and Stockton, Calif.

In addition, NBCUniversal terminated its agreement with Serestar to operate the local Telemundo station it already owned, KEJT-CD in Salt Lake City. KEJT will now be operated by the Telemundo Station Group. (Telemundo is owned by NBCUniversal.)

“Working together with our sister NBC stations to serve all audiences, including bilingual viewers, we look forward to continuing to super-serve Hispanics in Salt Lake City ... with the outstanding journalism that our Telemundo stations deliver day in and day out,” said Manuel Martinez, president of the Telemundo Station Group.

With the addition of the stations in Utah and California, NBCUniversal’s group now includes 30 Telemundo and 12 NBC stations in 30 markets across the United States.
