Girl recants story of attempted abduction outside a Bountiful school, police say

A Monday report of an attempted abduction outside South Davis Junior High School turned out to be false, Bountiful police announced Tuesday.

In a news release, the police department said the girl’s statements “were not consistent” with what investigators found.

“When confronted about the inconsistencies, the complainant recanted her statements,” the news release said.

On Monday, police in Bountiful said they were trying to find a man who attempted to take a girl after classes were dismissed. Police reported the girl was walking from the school to where she was supposed to be picked up when a man approached her. She said the man told her he was there to pick her up “because her father was unavailable,” police wrote in a statement.
