Man shot and killed by Syracuse officer in the parking lot of Clinton Police Department

A reportedly suicidal man with multiple firearms was shot and killed by a police officer at the Clinton Police station on Sunday.

According to Det. Erin Behm of the Syracuse Police Department, the “emotionally distraught” 64-year-old man who had a “suicidal call history with Clinton Police” arrived at their headquarters at 2209 N. 1500 West at about 11 a.m. on Sunday, parked his car behind the building and refused to give up his weapons.

“Clinton officers engaged in crisis negotiations with the man for over three hours, but he refused to surrender all the firearms,” Behm wrote in a statement.

A Syracuse Police Department officer who was assisting fired the shot that killed the man. The officer, who has not been identified, was placed on paid leave while the incident is investigated by the Davis County Sheriff's Office.

The man who was shot has not been identified, pending notification of family members.
