Dog shoots man — sort of — in Box Elder County

A duck hunter was shot and wounded when a dog apparently knocked over a gun, causing it to fire on Friday in West Corinne.

According to the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office — whose officers had not had a chance to interview either the victim or the one human witness as of Saturday — two men were in a duck blind at the Chesapeake Duck Club at about 4 p.m. Friday when one of them stood up to stretch. One of their dogs got excited and tried to exit the blind and “in the process, somehow discharged the weapon.”

The victim was struck in the left forearm, causing “a rather substantial injury.” He was transported to Brigham City Hospital, then transferred to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, where he was treated and released.

According to Chief Deputy Dale F. Ward, the incident is still under investigation and authorities had more information will be released after the victim and the witness are interviewed.
