Salt Lake City’s Tracy Aviary has new baby flamingos and toucans; we got pictures and video

Three flamingos hatched in July, as did the aviary’s first baby toucan.

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Tracy Aviary has a variety of new birds, including three new baby Chilean Flamingos. The trio, ranging in age from 14 to 29 days of age are growing fast and the aviary is currently having a naming competition. Every egg that is laid at the aviary is given a number. Chick 3 just happened to get the egg number 007, so keepers decided to theme the flamingo chick naming contest with 007 names.

A flock of fawning flamingos is watching over its newest members.

Three Chilean flamingo chicks hatched at Tracy Aviary in July and have grown into cotton balls with legs. The Salt Lake City aviary is hosting a naming contest until Sept. 9, when it will announce the winners during a concert.

Tracy Aviary also welcomed a Toco toucan, the first to hatch there. This bird will become more colorful as it ages.

The Toco Toucan is the first the first ever to hatch at the aviary, after an incubation period of 19 days and an additional 50 days in a nest log till all of its feathers came in as seen on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018.
