Two Utahns shot to death after argument with neighbor; police arrest naked suspect

A man and woman were shot to death Tuesday in a dispute with a neighbor, West Valley City police said.

Police later identified the victims as Chasidy Gerber, 37, and Martin Barron, 33. Investigators booked 23-year-old Kennedy G. Lund into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of aggravated murder. He remained there Wednesday morning.

Gunfire had been reported at a house near 1400 West and 3350 South about 7:15 p.m., when officers arrived to find a man with a gun standing in the street, said West Valley City police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku.

The man was a relative of the suspected shooter and had taken the gun away from him, Vainuku said.

A man and woman, apparently Barron and Gerber, who lived in an outbuilding behind the suspect’s home had been fatally shot during an argument with the suspect, Vainuku said.

The suspect then came outside, naked, and was taken into police custody, Vainuku said.

Investigators were interviewing witnesses Tuesday night. Lund’s relationship with the victims was not yet known late Tuesday.
