Police in Sandy tried a new community outreach tactic Friday, featuring officers and politicians handing out free pastries.
The occasion? National Doughnut Day.
“Everyone knows how much police officers love doughnuts, and we thought this would be a fun way to do something nice for our community,” Sandy Mayor Kurt Bradburn said in a statement.
“It’s really important to create positive interactions for residents with the police officers who serve our city, and what’s more positive than free doughnuts? It is also a priority of mine, as mayor, to be out in the community so residents know me personally and feel connected to their city government.”
Bradburn, a deputy mayor and interim Police Chief Bill O’Neal joined others in handing out doughnuts to morning TRAX commuters.
Deputy Mayor Evelyn Everton describes the event as a success, with 104 free donughuts distributed.
“It was fun. Everyone felt like it was a nice little gesture.”
