Boy Scout, 12, suffers ‘significant burns’ after accident at Spanish Fork troop meeting

A 12-year-old Boy Scout in Spanish Fork suffered “significant burns” on his hands and arms Wednesday evening, while his Scout troop was making camp stoves.

The Scout, who was not identified, was taken by ambulance by Mountain View Hospital in Payson, where he was taken by helicopter to another hospital, said Sgt. Cade Harding of the Spanish Fork Police Department.

The troop, meeting at a ward house of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 800 East and 400 South in Spanish Fork, was assembling homemade camp burners when a flammable liquid ignited. The boy had “significant burns” on his hands and arms and lesser burns on other parts of his body.

An adult male who was part of the Scout group had minor burns on his hands and his leg.
