State Route 30 in Logan reopens after wrecking yard fire

A large fire that started at DD Auto & Salvage in Logan shut down State Route 30, otherwise known as Valley View Highway, for several hours Saturday.

Capt. Tyson Budge of Logan police said someone accidentally started the fire while working on a car. The highway was shut down from 100 West to 3200 West, he said, due to smoke and fire crews.

The highway closed about 3 p.m. and reopened just after 6 p.m.

Because of its location, Budge said, an abundance of fuel and other flammable items could have made the situation worse. Photos from the scene show plumes of dark smoke rising from the wrecking yard, as vehicles and other wreckage burn.
