Planned Parenthood of Utah sues against Trump’s family-planning policy

(Leah Hogsten | The Salt Lake Tribune) Karrie Galloway, CEO of Planned Parenthood rallies those in attendance at Amplifying WomenÕs Voices rally to celebrate International WomenÕs Day at the Utah State Capitol Rotunda, hosted by KRCL, Thursday, March 8, 2018.

Salt Lake City • The Planned Parenthood Association of Utah is part of a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s efforts to stress abstinence and other methods aside from contraceptives in national family planning policy.

The Utah affiliate joined counterparts from Wisconsin and Ohio in filing the suit in Washington Wednesday. Planned Parenthood says those three affiliates serve a large majority of patients in the federal Title X grant program.

The Planned Parenthood Association of Utah is the state’s only recipient of Title X grants, which provide subsidies for family-planning services. The organization says that roughly 36,000 people use its services each year.

CEO Karrie Galloway says that without her organization, many people needing reproductive health care would have nowhere else to go.

The National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association also joined the lawsuit.
