Gov. Herbert appoints civil attorney to fill 3rd District Court vacancy

Gov. Gary Herbert has appointed Salt Lake City civil attorney Richard Mrazik as a judge on the 3rd District Court.

“Richard Mrazik is a dedicated worker with an excellent understanding of the law,” Herbert said in a Friday news release. “I am confident that he will be a strong addition to the bench.”

Mrazik has most recently worked as an associate attorney at Parsons Behle & Latimer, and has served as municipal counsel for the Town of Alta. He was previously at Rooker Mohrman Rawlins & Bailey and has served on the board of the Utah Bar Foundation and the Salt Lake County Bar Association. He received his law degree from the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah.

“I greatly appreciate the trust placed in me by Gov. Herbert,” Mrazik said in the news release. “If confirmed by the Senate, I will give my very best to the 3rd District Court and the people of Utah.”

Subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate, Mrazik will fill the vacancy left by Paige Petersen, who in January was sworn in as a Utah Supreme Court justice.
