Provo man who shot his wife three times found dead inside their home, police say

A Provo man who shot his wife three times Saturday night was found dead inside their home hours later, police said.

The wife, 48, underwent surgery for wounds from three 9 mm gunshots but is expected to survive, according to a news release from the Provo Police Department.

Police say the shooting occurred after Michael Skinner, 48, allegedly got into a physical altercation with his 22-year-old son, who then left the house near 1400 West and 500 North with his mother. When she returned the home to get shoes, she saw Skinner with a handgun, the release says.

As she was leaving, Skinner allegedly fired the gun 10 times, striking his wife three times.

At 10:17 p.m., officers found the wounded woman and her son taking cover behind a truck, the news release says.

Members of a SWAT team attempted to call out Skinner from the residence before breaching the home and sending in a police dog.

Skinner was found dead inside by officers at 4:39 a.m. Detective Nick Dupaix said the husband’s death apparently was caused by a self-inflicted gunshot.
