A Utah man who punched his 3-month-old son after the infant spit up on him was sentenced Wednesday to prison.

Mason Allen Blair, 22, pleaded guilty in February to second-degree felony child abuse.

Fourth District Judge Thomas Low on Wednesday sentenced him to spend up to 15 years in prison for the crime.

Police say Blair’s baby suffered “severe head trauma” when the father struck him on on May 29, 2017.

Blair told police after the child was taken to a local hospital for treatment that he punched the baby after the infant spit up on him and he “lost his temper.”

Police have said Blair also struck the infant on several other occasions before the child received medical care.
