Body found in drainage pipe in West Valley City parking lot

A survey crew found a dead body in a drainage pipe in a West Valley City parking lot on Friday afternoon.

The crew found the body just before 12:20 p.m. while surveying the parking lot of an empty K-Mart building near 4100 South and Redwood Road, according to West Valley police Sgt. Scott Arnold.

As part of the survey, the crew was investigating the underground plumbing and drainage.

They lifted a metal drainage culvert lid and found the body, partially submerged in water, Arnold said.

Police don’t yet know how long the body had been there, its gender or age.
