Utah police looking for a semi they believe hit and killed a woman on a highway north of Moab

A woman is dead after being hit Sunday on the side of a freeway 12 miles north of Moab, police say, and the driver responsible didn’t stop after the crash.

The body of 50-year-old Cheryl G. Zimmerman, of Lakewood, Colo., was discovered about 7 a.m. Sunday at mile marker 140 on southbound U.S. Highway 191, about 15 miles north of Moab, a news release from the Grand County sheriff’s office said.

Nearby, Zimmerman’s SUV was parked just off the highway, police said, adding that she had been outside the vehicle when she was hit.

Police believe the vehicle that hit Zimmerman was a southbound white semi truck that will have damage to its front passenger side.

County officials and officers from the Utah Highway Patrol are investigating the incident.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 435-259-8115 or UHP at 435-259-5441.
