Police seek tips from public after Clinton shooting leaves one man dead

Police were seeking tips from the public Tuesday morning after a shooting in Davis County left one man dead.

Clinton police Lt. Shawn Stoker said the shooting took place just after 9:30 p.m. near 1000 West and 1100 North in Clinton. Witnesses reported hearing four to eight gunshots and then seeing several vehicles leave the scene with their lights off. At that point, Stoker said, police believed the incident had been a drive-by shooting.

Later, someone called police to report a gunshot victim in a vehicle in Clearfield near 300 S. State St., Stoker said.

When police arrived, they found a man, dead in his vehicle. Police identified the victim as 21-year-old Deven Tomas Gallegos, of North Ogden.

An acquaintance was in the vehicle with Gallegos, Stoker said, and from talking with him, police determined the victim had been injured earlier during the Clinton shooting.

Police were collecting evidence at the two scenes all night, Stoker said, as well as at a residence in Clinton and from several cars believed to have been at the shooting. No suspects were in custody as of Tuesday morning, Stoker said, but police have spoken with several people who witnessed the shooting. They have also identified others whom they plan to talk with, who may have been involved or witnessed the shooting, he said.

Police have not heard of any other victims in the incident, Stoker said. Police have identified the deceased victim, but are not releasing his identity, pending notification of his family.

Anyone who has seen or heard something about the incident is asked to call Davis County dispatch at 801-451-4151.
