2-year-old in hospital after being hit by car in front of Herriman preschool

A 2-year-old boy was flown to the hospital Wednesday morning in serious condition after the child was hit by car in Herriman, police say.

The boy was injured while a father was picking up his own child from a preschool near 4600 West and 14200 South about 11 a.m., according to Unified police.

After the man put his child in the car, the 2-year-old boy — who had been on the front porch with a few other kids — walked in front of the car, according to Unified police Detective Ken Hansen.

“The driver didn’t see the little boy leave the front porch,” Hansen said. “So when he moved forward, he didn’t think anything was in front of him, but unfortunately, the 2-year-old had made his way down there.”

The child’s arm was scratched, Hansen said, and he was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital because police were concerned he may have been under the car’s tire.
